For anyone who holds even the vaguest interest in visiting the U.S. the holler of the South is hard to ignore. Watch any American movie, read any book or, for the pretentious among us, study any play set in Dixie and it’s clear the place—it’s complicated history, complex culture and magnificent landscape in toto—proves magnetic.

While ‘Merica is a nation of 50 states, most of which make up the patchwork map that covers a vast swath of North America, these days what is actually considered ‘The South’ is a moving border.
